Daniel Moore

Daniel August Moore was born on February 19, 1954 in Birmingham, Alabama, where he still maintains his home.

Moore showed an artistic interest at an early age when his first attempt in oil painting was hung in the school's lunchroom by the principal, where it stayed for the remainder of his grade-school days.

Moore took art classes while attending high school at W.A. Berry in Birmingham. While there, he improved his skill and began taking advantage of his creativity. However, he stayed too busy pursuing his interest in sports — mainly football and baseball — to seriously focus on painting, his God-given talent.

Toward his senior year in high school, Moore began considering a curriculum for college. Through encouragement from his parents, he decided to pursue a BFA curriculum in commercial art while minoring in painting. In 1974, soon after beginning his formal painting classes as the University of Alabama, he became very interested in photo-realism. With the exception of Richard Brough, his graphic design and watercolor teacher, his painting instructors were all abstract expressionists who were not particularly enthused by the artistic direction the artist was taking.

Moore worked as a commercial artist and illustrator for years out of college and was able to stay involved in the creative process. During this period, he was also able to devote his extra time to creating "fine art" paintings, which he showed and sold in local and regional art shows.

It was while Moore was working as the staff artist for Alabama Power Company that he painted an illustration of a runner for the company magazine. Because he spent a great deal of time at home on the painting, the company allowed him to produce a poster from the artwork. He advertised the poster in Runner's World magazine using his meager savings and a small loan from his father. Even though the poster, "The Isaiah 40:31," only sold for $4.50, he met with modest success and was able to sell the posters in all 50 states and several foreign countries. After seeing his poster and its success, a colleague and friend of Moore's suggested that he paint a football painting which he produced as limited edition prints known as "The Goal Line Stand." The effort was financially more rewarding than his first and enabled the artist to start his own publishing company, New Life Art, Inc.

Since that time, Moore has become nationally known for his skill in capturing great moment in sports history. Thousands of loyal collectors eagerly await his newest commemorative creation. His talent and faithful attention to detail have endeared him to his appreciative fine art patrons. Moore has been selected to create works of art for numerous professional sports organizations including: the NFL, the Super Bowl, the NBA, Major League Baseball and the PGA of America. His previous work includes such major collegiate bowl games such as: The Sugar Bowl, Liberty Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Citrus Bowl, Outback Bowl and the SEC Football Championship. Also, the Unites States Postal Service selected Moore to create the artwork for the "Legendary Football Coaches," which feature Bear Bryant, Pop Warner, George Halas and Vince Lombardi.

Most recently, Moore debuted his newest creation, "Iron Bowl Gold." He unveiled 26 of the eventual 41-watercolor exhibit at the Academy in January 2005, accompanied by eight original oil paintings and three sketches. (Visit Daniel Moore exhibit page.)
