John Robinson

Working from studios in the United Kingdom, John Robinson made a name as a sculptor of children and sports figures. Robinson's "Pathfinder" can be found in the courtyard of the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, AL; it is also known as "Hammer Thrower" where it sits outside the Bowring Building, Tower Hill, London. Further involved in the venture of capturing sport in his sculpture, Robinson's five-meter "Acrobats" is located at the Sports Centre in Canberra, and "Gymnast" is at the new Olympic Museum in Lausanne, donated by the Australian Olympic Committee. Robinson served as the Official Sculptor for the British Olympic Committee in 1988.

In the early 1970's, Robinson began the Universe Series of Symbolic Sculpture, which now comprises over one hundred works, including sculptures in bronze, wood, stainless steel, marble and 11 tapestries. A selection has been exhibited at Leeds, Bangor, Liverpool, Wadham College Oxford, Churchill College Cambridge, London, Barcelona and Zaragoza. His Symbolic Sculptures have brought together the artist and mathematician. Through this association, both sides have been enriched, and Robinson's striking works have been brought to the attention of a wider public.
