Exhibit Room V Arman Armand
"Long Term Parking"
Exhibit Room V contains images of the famous artist Armand's accumulations. "Accumulations," which Armand began in 1959, features everyday objects crowded together in boxes, or vitrines. Since the objects are not arranged, there is a certain element of chance present in the work. Later, you will see "Lucky," - Armand's major piece at the Academy, located outside on the southern façade of the building. Please see Armand's biography with this work.More on Armand
Exhibit Room VI Mina Papatheodorou-Valyraki
In this exhibit room, we find Valyraki's renderrings of Ships and Cars. Redefining the term "seascape," Ms. Papatheodorou-Valyraki portrays not only the sea but also the world that surrounds it. Filling her canvas with the domineering vessel, she alludes to the imporant role of the shipping industry. Her crane, a mechanical extension of the human body, raises it's limbs to penetrate the sky reminding us that the sea is indeed a viable, working source. More on Valyraki

Daniel You: A resident of Paris, You is the son of a Vietnamese father and a French mother. He believes that "painting is a language that I need to speak. Human nature reveals all the landscapes of the world. When I paint humans, I paint nature." You paints on the border of dream and reality, and in his work, he expresses the balance between force and sensuality, poise and movement. He maintains that when you observe the immobile figures he paints, you discover that they breathe. More on Daniel You |
